MLA escapes death in boat mishap

Vijayawada, Nov 4 (UNI) Former Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh assembly and Malleswaram legislator Buragadda Veda Vyas and ten others had a miraculous escape when a boat in which they were travelling turned turtle at Ajjabanda drain near Pedanna today.

Krishna District Superintendent of Police M K Singh told UNI that 12 people including Vyas, Mandal Parishad President Syamala, gunmen and villagers were travelling in the ill-fated boat when the mishap occured.

The nearby villagers rescued the MLA and others, while Vyas' gunmen were missing.

The legislator and others were proceeding in a boat to oversee the rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected areas.

Mr Vyas was in a state of shock, Mr Singh said and added that others travelling in the boat were safe.

Search operations were on to trace the gunmen, he added.
