Mangalore nature park gets two lions from Mysore zoo

Mangalore, Nov 4 (UNI) The Pilikula Nisargadhama (nature park) on the outskirts of the city has received two lions -- a male and a female -- from the famous Mysore zoo as part of an exchange programme.

According to the wildlife officials here, the Mysore zoo was in return given a pair of leopard cats and a female lion-tailed macaque, nature to the Western Ghats. The Nisargadhama would also receive a pair of panthers and a pair of tigers from Tavarekoppa in Shimoga next week. Negotiations were also on with the Gujarat Government for getting two Gir lions.

With the addition of the lions, 'Narasimha' (12) and three-year-old 'Siri', large number of visitors were thronging the park, they said.

Siri, hitherto known as Ankita in the Mysore zoo, was responding well to the new name, they added.
