Lifer for six CPI(M) activists in murder case

Thalassery (Kerala), Nov 4: A Fast Track Court here today sentenced six activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to life imprisonment for murdering a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker at Vattipram in Kannur district about six years ago.

Thalassery Fast Track Court I Judge A A Vijayan also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on each of them.

The court, after finding them guilty of murdering BJP activist Chirakkakath Korebbath Chandran (45) in a bomb attack on December 3, 2000, awarded the punishment to Kanddamkunnu U K Shaji (34), Karayi Rajeevan (34), Maniyath Ashokan (35), Chemmeri Sudheesh (30), Vattipram Neyyan Sreedharan (58) Vattipram Thekkumbadan Ashokan (42).

The judge, in his order, directed payment of Rs one lakh out of the penalty amount to the wife and daughter of the deceased.
