"Laxman rekha" must for sting operations: LS Speaker
Hyderabad, Nov 4 (UNI) Not opposing the sting operations carried out by the media, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today said there should be a 'laxman rekha' for the sting operations carried out by several TV channels in the country.
Speaking to newspersons here, Mr Chatterjee said improper use of sting operations would damage the image of people's representatives.
''It should be fair, the operations should concern with the people's issues'', he said.
Advocating that the people should have the power to recall the elected representatives if they did not perform their duties, Mr Chatterjee said it was necessary to submit an undertaking along with his nomination papers that he would be recalled if he failed to perform his duties as a public representative.
''There is a need to evolve consensus among all political parties on enacting a law to recall the people representatives'', he added.
He said the people should watch the proceedings in the Parliament during the sessions and evaluate performance of elected representatives.
To a query, Mr Chatterjee said, ''He was quite satisfied with the Speaker's post and ruled out any plan to contest for the President's post.'' UNI AP AJ SK HS1909
