Labour union plea on modernising textile mills
Puducherry, Nov 4( UNI) The Puducherry Textile Mills Labour Union has urged the administration to take immediate steps to modernise the textile mills here in order to take advantages of the changes happening in the textile sector nationally and internationally.
In a statement here today, Union Secretary V S Abishegam said the Chief Minister was apprised of the need to modernise the mills and also to provide employment to the wards of the workers who had undergone training in the mills.
The Chief Minister had promised to fulfil the demand, he claimed.
He also said newlly-installed machines worth Rs five crore were lying idle due to manpower shortage. This could be over come if the workers' wards were given jobs.
Mr Abishegam also said the union would picket the Assembly on November 14 to press the demands.
