Indians attend Guru Purab celebrations at Nankana Sahib

Moga, Nov 4 (UNI) A delegation of Sikh pilgrims from India was participating in the birth day celebrations of Guru Nanak at - Gurdwara Janam Asthan at Nankana Sahib in Pakistan, which started yesterday with the recitation of Guru Granth Sahib.

It was for the first time since the Partition that local residents of Nankana Sahib invited Sikh pilgrims from India as guests to stay with them in their houses, Sohan Singh, Vice President Bhai Mardana International Yadgari Kirtan Darbar Society told UNI today over telephone from Nankana Sahib.

The entire town of Nankana Sahib, besides Gurdwara Janam Asthan was decorated and illuminated for the occasion, he said.

More than 45 sikh pilgrims from India, 2900 Sikhs from the US, United Kingdom and other Western Countries, 1300 sikhs from Afghanistan and Pakistan, besides 1400 Hindus from the Sindh province of Pakistan were participating in the celebrations.

Mr Sohan Singh also said Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaukat Aziz, Chief Minister of West Punjab Parvez Elahi and Minister for minorities Aijaz Elahi would also participate in the main celebrations tomorrow and address the congregation after paying obeisance.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan was expected to make some special announcement to mark the occasion, Mr Singh added.
