Greater Bangalore will benefit ordinary citizens: Kumaraswamy
Bangalore, Nov 4 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today said the proposed Greater Bangalore Project (GBP) would result in creating world standards facilities in the city which will benefit all including the ordinary citizens.
Dismissing allegations that the move was a ploy to postpone the election to the city corporation which would be due later this month, he said the notification had been issued to make Bangalore a model city in the country.
Speaking to media persons here, he said, "We have called for opinions and objections, if any, from the people. The decision was taken to usher in a planned and time bound development of a wider area around the city. The intention is to provide world standard infrastructure as well as better basic amenities to those who suffered due to lack of it. The earlier idea of forming seven city municipal councils in the towns surrounding Bangalore was a failure," he said.
He said this project would ensure development of all these towns as well as 117 villages which would be provided with better drinking water, roads and housing facilities. There was no dearth for resources to develop the city and it would be generated within.
There was no need for external assistance or borrowings for this purpose, he said.
"Many state governments are wooing investors who wants to come to Bangalore promising better sops and infrastructural facilities.
However, the conditions in the metros or big cities in these states were the same as in Bangalore," he said.
Earlier, The Chief Minister dedicated projects developed by the Bangalore City Corporation at a cost of Rs 28 crore. This included renovation of Sanky Tank, dedication of SJP Road and inauguration of 64 feet Kempegowda Tower.
