Grand air show by IAF in Ahmedabad from Nov 10

Ahmedabad, Nov 4 (UNI) The flying aces of Indian Air Force will exhibit their skills on the Ahmedabad city skyline during the ten-day long ''Air Awarenss Campaign'' air show to be held here from November 10.

The air show has been organised as a part of the year-long celebrations of the IAF to mark its platinum jubilee year, said Air Marshal P K Mehra, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command (SWAC) here yesterday.

He said, commemorating the platinum jubilee year of the IAF, the campaign specially arranged by SWAC, aims to bring IAF closer to the youth and bring about awareness of the service in the state.

The 90-minute ''air show'' will have 65 aircraft from the IAF inventory participating, and on a scale hitherto unseen at any public show in Gujarat on the first three days of the Air Awareness Campaign. Apart from an aerial ballet of ''Sarang'' by a quartet of helicopter in ''Dhruv'', the indigenously-built Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), the nine-aircraft ''Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT)'' will weave its magical spell in the sky.

''Akash Ganga'', the IAF skydiving team, will demonstrate the essence of adventure of the air warriors. The show includes a ''static display'' featuring an array of IAF aircraft-- fighter, transport and helicopters-- apart from display of weapon platforms, ammunitions, missiles, radars and publicity stalls, he said.

A recruitment rally of the IAF will also take place for the aspiring candidates from Gujarat, and the Union territories of Daman, Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli at the Sardar Patel stadium in the city between November 14-19, Air Marshal Mehra added.
