Eight killed in theatre collapse

Visakhapatnam, Nov 4 (UNI) Eight people, including four women, were killed and 15 others injured in a theatre collapse after its slab in the first floor caved in here late last night, police said.

All the deceased were labourers hailing from Paravada Mandal in the district, they said, adding the slab of the open theatre, which brought down the entire structure, was under construction.

City Police Commissioner V S K Kaumudi and top police officials visited the spot.

The victims were identified as K Gangamma, V Suramma, P Uthara Kumari, G Rajamma, Ch Pydinaidu, V Sanyasinaidu, P Mahalakshmi Naidu and R Gowri Naidu and their bodies were shifted to the KGH hospital here.

The injured were admitted to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) Hospital.

The VSP had alloted the site to the Plant Employees Society to construct a theatre, the police added.
