Delhi to host Maharashtra Govt's Lata Mangeshkar awards

New Delhi, Nov 4 (UNI) In a break from tradition, this year's prestigious Lata Mangeshkar Awards will be presented in the national capital instead of Maharashtra.

Instituted by the Maharashtra government, the awards are to be conferred on noted Bollywood singer Manna De, Snehal Bhatkar and Jaimala Shiledar at a function here on November 28.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will confer the awards at a function at Siri Fort, which will be attended, among others, by Minister of State for Culture Rana Jagjit Singh Patil, Union Cabinet Ministers hailing from Maharashtra and Members of Parliament.

On the occasion, Ashok Hande, of 'Chaurang' cultural troupe of Mumbai, will present a cultural programme.

Delhi'ites would be treated to music composed by Snehel Bhatkar and songs by Manna Dey and Jaimala Shiledar.

The award comprises a cash component of Rs one lakh, a memento and citation.

Maharashtra Information Centre here will be a co-organiser of this programme long with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs.
