CPI (ML) plea to Govt
Puducherry, Nov 4 (UNI) The CPI (ML) here today urged the government to evolve and implement proper schemes to enhance the standard of living of the people in the union territory.
In a statement, Party Secretary S Balasubramanian ridiculed Chief Minister N Rangasamy's reported statement at a recent function that the per capita income had risen to over Rs 62,000 saying the comments were made to cover up the real problems faced by the people.
Of the three lakh ration cards in a population of about ten lakh, more than 1.25 lakh cards belonged to those the below poverty line.
Further, the number of persons registered for jobs in employment exchange rose to about 1.86 lakh.
Though the per capita income had risen, the number of BPL families had gone up to around 1.50 lakh which only showed the rich were getting richer and the poor poorer.
