Cong Councillors oppose fast

Puducherry, Nov 4 (UNI) Three Congress councillors today took strong exception to the proposed one-day fast by PMK Parliamentary party leader M Ramadass here on November 6 to press for the devolution of powers to elected representatives of the local bodies.

In a joint statement today, D Rajan and A Mary Francina (both Puducherry Municipal Councillors) and C Balamurugan (Commune Panchayat Councillor) pointed out that the fast by Prof Ramadass would create a wrong precedent and add to political confusions here.

It is gratifying that Mr Ramadass had shown interest in the Councillors getting powers. However, he himself had pointed out in his address to the Councillors that agitation was not the solution to any problem and it should be resolved through discussions.

Hence, Prof Ramadass must drop his agitation, they said.
