Centre to unveil policy for semi-conductor industry soon: PM
Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, Nov 4 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today announced that the Centre would soon unveil a policy for the semi-conductor industry and remarked that ''Brand India'' had begun to make its mark on the world stage.
Dr Singh, accompanied by Congress President Sonia Gandhi laid the foundation stone for the ''Global Automotive Research Centre'' at Orgadam near here, visited the Nokia facility and inaugurated the state-of-the-art Industrial Park of Flextronics, world's leading Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) providers.
The Prime Minister, who arrived here last night, visited the SIPCOT complex at Oragadam, near here to lay the foundation stone for the Rs 470 crore National Automotive Testing and Research and Development Infrastructure Project, driving Chennai to the Global stage in Automotive Excellence.
It was during the inaugural function of the Sethusamudram Project in Madurai on July two, 2005, that Dr Singh had announced the project for Tamil Nadu and a year later, he kickstarted the prestigious project.
Speaking at the function, Dr Singh said the UPA Government would do all that was required to realise the goal of making India ''the workshop of the world.'' Both Indian and foreign firms were contributing to make India an automotive and industrial powerhouse and a global manufacturing hub.
