CBI arrests two Railways engineers
New Delhi, Nov 4 (UNI) Two engineers of the Northern Railway have been arrested by the CBI on charges of seeking bribery for passing the pending bills of a contractor.
Surender Chugh and M S Hosnain, posted at Jalandhar (Punjab), were arrested yesterday by the Anti-Corruption Branch (Chandigarh) of the CBI on the complaint of a contractor, according to official sources.
In his complaint, the contractor said he had completed an assignment worth Rs four crore of which Rs three crore had already been paid to him.
Payment for the rest of the amount had been pending and the accused were demanding Rs 50,000 each for passing the bills, which he refused.
Later they said that he could give Rs 25,000 now and pay the rest when the bills were passed, following which the complaint was lodged.
