Bru rebels kidnap villager from Asom
Silchar, Nov 4 (UNI) Kidnapping in south Asom bordering Mizoram was unabated, as suspected Bru (Reang) rebels whisked away one more villager from Barak Valley, barely few hours after releasing a CPI(M) leader, police said today.
About 15 Bru rebels with army fatigue armed with AK series rifles raided the house of Nripendra Roy at the wee hours today and manhandled Roy's five relatives badly before whisking away the head of the family at gunpoint.
Police said the rebels have taken the captive, a farmer, towards border areas of Mizoram.
Police and CRPF had launched a combing operation in the areas bordering Asom and Mizoram. However, there was no trace of Mr Roy till this evening.
The area is dominated by Mizoram-based Bru rebels, who are engaged in continuous kidnapping and extortion in Asom areas for past one decade.
The rebels yesterday set free CPI(M) leader Gokumoni Nath after about ten days of abduction.
