200 kg RDX, 61 detonators recovered from cave in Doda

Jammu, Nov 4 (UNI) In a pre-dawn operation, security forces today recovered a large quantity of explosive material and devices, including 200 kg of RDX powder and 61 detonators, from a natural cave in Ramban tehsil of Doda district, foiling the possible terror plots on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH1A).

On specific information, security forces raided a militant hideout at Beuoni in Sumber area, about 20 km from Ramban, and recovered 200 kg RDX, 61 detonators, two Remote Control IED boxes, five rounds for .303 rifle and two 500 gm packs each of some (unidentified) chemical, besides other material, official sources said.

Troops of 58 Rashtriya Rifles, 4th battalion of BSF and local police were searching the area to nab the militants, while no arrest had been made in this connection so far, sources said.

Pakistan-backed Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, which is active in the area, is believed to have dumped the explosive materials and devices in the cave, they added.

As the 'Darbar' (Civil Secretariat) is on its move towards the winter capital Jammu, the recovery is being considered as a major success against terror plots to disrupt vehicular movement on the National Highway between Jammu and Srinagar.

According to experts, 200 kg of RDX could be used to make 25-30 'highly explosive' bombs (IEDs).

NH1A has remained a target of militants, attempting to disrupt the vehicular movement.

In the past, over a dozen blasts have occurred on the National Highway, wherein several people have lost their lives.
