Vision India Manipur inaugurated
Imphal, Nov 3 (UNI) The Manipur leg of Vision India Project was today inaugurated by Governor SS Sidhu at the Khuman Lampak Stadium here in the presence of top AFC and AIFF officials.
Asian Football Confederation (AFC) General Secretary Peter Velappan and All India Football Federation president Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi were among several dignitaries who attended the colourful ceremony watched by over 500 spectators, which also marks the beginning of Manipur State League.
In the first match of the league, Tiddim Road Athletics Union (TRAU) beat South Sporting Union 2-0.
Twelve teams are taking part in the league, the final phase of which will continue till March 31 next year. The matches will be played every Saturday with each team playing on home and away basis.
Under AFC's Vision Asia Project, Manipur and Delhi were chosen to start professional state leagues on pilot basis. Delhi will soon launch its professional league.
Mr Velappan had said recently in Bangalore that the AFC had asked the AIFF to choose to more states for the project.
