UP Govt told to remove guest house from Yamuna bank

New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today asked the Uttar Pradesh Government to remove the guest house on the bank of river Yamuna near Kalindi Kunj as it was within 300 meters from the edge of the river.

While hearing a PIL, a division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kailash Gambhir said when the temples and mosques were being removed, the UP government should voluntarily set example by demolishing the structure.

The Welfare Officer of Tibetan government in exile was present in the court and assured that there would be no illegal constructions on the river bank at Majnu-ka-Tila.

The Court directed the government to reallocate the structures of the Tibetan government by allotting alternate sites. ''They are our guests and deserved to be treated in a better manner,'' observed the court.

Earlier, the bench had directed the DDA to clean up all encroachments from its land and fence the area between DND flyover and Kalindi Kunj forthwith.

The area between Jogbai Extension and Batla House Extension having many unauthorised constructions on the flood plain within 300 metres from the edge of the river had also to be removed by the DDA, said the court.

The Justice Usha Mehra Committee, constituted by the High Court had submitted a status report on the removal of the encroachment.

The Court expressed its anguish over inaction in clearing the land at Majnu Ka Tila, a settlement of the Tibetan refugees.

On the representation of the Tibetan refugees, the court had directed the Delhi government to resettle the Office of Tibetan Government in exile and refugees at Majnu Ka Tila, Bela Road, Budh Vihar and Monastry in a more hygienic and safer place.
