Two drown,some feared dead as vehicles fall in canal

Basirhat, Nov 03 (UNI) A woman and a child drowned and a few others were feared dead when a car and a truck fell into an in-spate canal of the Ichhamati river here this morning.

Police said the 35-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son, travelling in the car, died when the car and a cement laden truck fell into the river. The vehicles were approaching a floating barge to cross the canal.

The truck driver and his helpers were feared drowned, police said adding a search was on to trace them and the vehicle.

The victims were travelling in the car. Some BSF men fished the car out of water and found the two bodies. Four other occupants of the car, including the driver, swam ashore.
