Top ULFA leader killed in Asom
Guwahati, Nov 3 (UNI) The security forces today shot dead a top ULFA leader near Moran in upper Asom, giving a major blow to one of the most active ULFA formations of the state.
Official sources here said the second in command of the 28th battalion, Swaran Majhi, was found dead after a two-hour-long gunbattle near Kordoiguri.
He and two others Anup Dehengia and Mangal Singh were hiding in a paddy field.
Police acting on a tip-off cordoned off the entire area and killed all the three militants.
One AK-56 rifle, one M-20 rifle and 70 rounds of ammunition besides three grenades were found.
Swaran Majhi rose to fame after the infamous Dhemaji bomb blasts, where 17 children were killed on the spot.
