Textile Park to employ 15,000 people
Palakkad Nov 3 (UNI) Kerala Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem and Electricity Minister A K Balan today said the Integrated Textile Park at Kanjikode in the district was expected to provide employment to more than 15,000 people.
Addressing a joint press conference here, they said the Rs 500-crore project would provide indirect employement to thousands of people and would have a positive impact on the economic and industrial development of the entire region.
The Ministers said the Park coming up in 350 acres would provide facilities to the private sector to set up spinning mills and weaving, knitting, yarn and cloth processing units. Common infrastructure facilities like power, water, road connectivity and pollution control facilities would be provided at the Park.
They said the Union Government would support the project by taking 40 per cent of its equity subject to a ceiling of Rs 40 crore.
The Ministers said Kanjikode industrial belt presently faced severe pollution problem from smeltering units. Licence would not be given to such factories in future unless they fully complied with pollution control norms, they added.
