Suspension of SGPC Secretary: Notice to Makkar

Chandigarh, Nov 3 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notices for November 30 to Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar and the Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission (SGJC) on the issue of suspension of SGPC secretary Raghbir Singh in August this year.

The petitioner had been placed under suspension on August 26 for his alleged participation in political activity with the intention to contest the election from Raja Sansi constituency. On the other hand, the petitioner alleged that being the receiver for Gurdwara at Ambala, the respondents had been pressing him to transfer funds to Miri Piri trust, Shahabad but the same was resisted by him. Angered by this, he had been suspended.

He had also moved the SGJC against suspension orders and also to restrain the SGPC authorities from transferring funds from Gurdwara at Ambala. During an earlier hearing, the court had called for relevant records too. After preliminary hearing, the Division Bench of Justices J S Narang and Arvind Kumar issued notices to the respondents for November 30.
