SP workers dispersed by police
Bhopal, Nov 3 (UNI) Samajwadi Party workers who gathered here for an anti-poverty campaign were dispersed by the police today while attempting to tear down a barricade and advance towards the state Assembly.
''The police resorted to a canecharge that injured more than two dozen activists who were led by MP Akhilesh Yadav and wanted to meet Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan,'' claimed party Secretary and MLA Sunilam.
The police said that the workers were trying to break into prohibited area and were told not to do so but all efforts in vain.
Two women Anita and Poona Bai were hurt in an ensuing stampede.
Earlier, the activists conducted a 'Garibon Ka Naam Jodo' campaign at a local park.
''The names of those living Below Poverty Line in this state are being intentionally deleted. Therefore, the deserving persons are not benefitting from several government schemes,'' Mr Yadav alleged.
Meanwhile an official release said that Mr Yadav and Dr Sunilam led a delegation to Mr Chouhan and submitted a memorandum for reversing the deletion of names. The Chief Minister assured them of required action.
