SP confident of landslide victory in 2007 assembly poll
Lucknow, Nov 3 (UNI) The Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh today claimed the party was poised to achieve two-third majority in the coming assembly poll as could be gauged from the public mood in the state civic poll ending this evening.
''The development and generally good governance seemed to have played a major role on the minds of electorate in the civic poll,'' SP leader and UP transport minister Naresh Agarwal told reporters here.
Coming down heavily on the oposition parties like Congress, BJP and BSP, he said they had combined to level wild allegations of rigging and irregualrities by the ruling dispensation, and dismissed it as a''manifestation of frustration' of these parties. ''They have sensed their fate in the coming assembly election,'' he added.
Dismissing charges of misuse of official machinery in the civic poll, Mr Agarwal said the election was conducted in the most impartial manner and all complaints in this regard were ''fake and fabricated.'' The SP minister said despite the non-cooperation from the Centre, the poll was conducted in an efficient manner despite the absence of central forces. He said the assembly poll would also be held in the same ''free and fair'' way.
