Senior government official and his wife had a narrow escape

Diphu, Nov 3 (UNI) A senior Asom government official and his wife had a close shave today as tribal militants fired at their vehicle at Silbheta, about 22 km from Diphu in Karbi Anglong hill district of Asom.

Police informed that Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Hamrem sub-division of the hill district Manoranjan Gogoi and his wife were travelling by a Gypsy when they came under attack of a seven-member group of suspected KLNLF militants inside the forest at Silbheta area.

The militants fired upon the vehicle, damaging it badly. The PSO of the official put up a brave front and retaliated, thereby saving the lives of the officer and his wife.

In a similar incident, unidentified militants opened fire at a three-vehicle patrol convoy of police at Kalanala under Umrangshu police station of North Cachar hill district today.

There was no report of any casualty.
