Russia, Egypt agree on peaceful resolution to W Asia conflict

Moscow, Nov 3 (UNI) Russia and Egypt agreed on peaceful resolution to the West Asia conflict, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Ali Aboul Gheit said here at a meeting.

''The parties affirmed that their positions coincide on the need to search for solely political means to resolve crises and disputes in the West Asia,'' Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

''The ministers stressed that the use of force is unacceptable and that it is counterproductive to use pressure and isolation to settle international clashes,'' the statement added.

Lavrov and Gheit exchanged opinions on the state of affairs in the Palestine-Israeli issue and other tracks of the West Asia peace process in a meeting yesterday.

''Conceptual provisions of the 'road map' can and should be the landmark,'' they noted.

The sides discussed developments in Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, Iran and Iraq, as well as bilateral relations.

''The ministers noted the substantial growth of bilateral business cooperation and the development of ties in all areas witnessed in the past several years,'' the statement said.
