Rushmi-Sanaa win doubles crown, both to clash for singles title
Ahmedabad, Nov 3 (UNI) Top seed Rushmi Chakravarthi today stormed into the finals of the ACTF-Gujarat NRE Coke ITF Women's Circuit 2006, defeating unseeded Madura Ranganathan in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
She will meet her doubles partner and third seed Sanaa Bhambri in the finals.
In the doubles finals, Sanaa and Rushmi defeated Tara Iyer and Meghha Vakaria 6-2, 6-4 to take home the title.
In her semis, Madura matched Rushmi shot for shot. It was, however, Rushmi's experience that saw her pull through major points.
Rushmi broke Madura in the second game of the first set only to be broken back in the third with help of two double faults.
Madura was again broken in the very next game but she broke back in the fifth. In the sixth game, Rushmi was serving at 40-0 when Madura unleashed some great shots to take the score to deuce.
Eventually, Rushmi managed to save her serve. Rushmi again broke Madura in the eighth game and then retained her serve to take the set 6-3.
In the second set, Madura got broken in the first game. In the second game, Rushmi rallied from 0-40 down and went on to win the game. The next service break came in the sixth game when Madura broke Rushmi who broke back in the seventh game only to lose her serve in the eighth. Madura again got broken in the ninth. Rushmi did not commit any mistakes to retain her serve and reach the finals.
In the other semi-final, Sanaa Bhambri ousted Meghha Vakaria in just 81 minutes, winning 6-3, 6-3.
In the first set, Meghha was broken twice in the first and ninth games. In the second set, Sanaa got broken in the first set then broke Meghha in the sixth only to be broken back in the seventh and breaking Meghha again in the eighth.
The doubles crown was annexed by the top seeded pair of Rushmi Chakravarthi and Sanaa Bhambri, defeating Tara Iyer and Meghha Vakaria. In the first set, Tara was broken in the opening game and Meghha in the third to give Rushmi and Sanaa a 3-0 lead. Sanaa was broken in the fourth and Tara again lost her serve in the fifth. The set went 6-2 in favour of the top seeds. In the second set, Tara got broken in the first and ninth games. Sanaa was broken in the fourth game. The set and match went to Rushmi and Sanaa 6-2, 6-4.
