Reliance Fresh not to sell Genetically Modified Foods

Hyderabad, Nov 3: Reliance Fresh, the Reliance Industries' retail venture, will not sell Genetically Modified Foods (GMF) and a decision on selling GMF would be taken only after looking into the Centre's decision on GMF, which is pending.

Addressing the press here today, Reliance Fresh Chief Executive and Chief Operations Officer Laxmi Pillai said the company would open more out lets in 784 towns and 6000 rural town centres by the end of 2010 with an investment of Rs 20,000 crore.

It had set a target of Rs 1,00,000 crore sales through the retail outlets.

The outlets would provide quality products to the consumers. It would also provide employment to five lakh persons in the next five years.

The company would procure farm produce directly from the farmers and help them increase the productivity by providing all necessary technology and new farm techniques, he added.
