Ramadoss demands sending food to Lanka
Chennai, Nov 3 (UNI) PMK founder-leader S Ramadoss, whose party is a constituent of the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, today demanded the Union Government send food items to Tamil areas in Sri Lanka and save six lakh Tamils from starvation.
Expressing disappointment over failure of the Geneva peace talks, Dr Ramadoss alleged in a statement here the island government was continuing the 'genocide', India, with the help of the Red Cross Society should send food items through ships, if not by air.
He charged the Lankan government had launched an offensive in Tamil areas and killing Tamils as if it was the only way to find a solution to the vexed ethnic crisis.
While the armed forces were carrying on with attacks, the Lankan government prevented supply of all essential commodities like food, petrol and diesel to Tamil areas, leading to starvation deaths.
This was the worst inhuman act resorted to by the island government and India should no longer remain a mute spectator. The Indian government should immediately direct Sri Lanka to open the highway, which connected Jaffna with other areas and allow supply of medicine and other essential commodities, Dr Ramadoss demanded.
India, which always raised its voice when this kind of atrocity was committed on humanity, should act immediately. 'This is not only the demand of Tamils in Tamil Nadu, but all over the world,' he said.
