About 200 horse breeders and riders from different parts of the state are likely to participate in 24 different events which, besides breed competitions, will include tent-pegging, trick-riding, show/jumping, dressage medley races, cross-country endurance runs, pone-cart races etc.

The inaugural and the closing ceremonies as well as some of the competitions will be held in the Chaman Stadium of PPA, while a few other events like cross-country endurance races and ponycart races will be organised in the rugged riverine terrain in the vicinity of the Academy campus.

Participation of young contestants from the leading public schools of the state like the Punjab Public School, Nabha, Kirpal Sagar Academy, Rahon, Guru Ram Das Academy, Ludhiana and the cadets of the PAU based 3rd Remount Veterinary Corps Battalion of NCC will add to the colour and charm of the Championship. All the Mounted Units of the Punjab Police, besides the Punjab based units of the Army and BSF are expected to send their equestrian teams for the Championship.

A number of private horse breeders and equestrian enthusiasts have also shown a keen interest in different events and they will be competing for different trophies in the Championship.

Nihangs will display their equestrian feats in their traditional colourful attires on the opening and closing days of the meet. Joy rides on horse-back and on decorated horse drawn carriages of vintage designs are planned to be organised for ladies and children in particular to give them a first hand experience of the horses and horsemanship.

The President of the Punjab Equestrian Association Rajdeep Singh Gill, who is also the ADGP-cum-Director of PPA said here today that the prime objective of organising this meet is to rejuvenate the fading interest of upcoming generation in horses and equestrian sports.
