Pranati Niyogi passes away

Kolkata, Nov 3 (UNI) Veteran Congress leader Pranati Niyogi died here last night after a protracted illness.

She was 79. She is survived by her husband, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police, and two daughters.

Ms Niyogi, who joined the Congress in the Durgapur session, was also the former president of West Bengal Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee.

She was associated with Jatiya Kalyan Samiti till her illness.

She was a member of the State Social Welfare Advisory Board and Regional Transport Authority and a civil defence activist.

Ms Niyogi was one of the first five airhostesses of Airways India after independence.
