Police Mission meets to deliberate making policing effective
New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) The newly constituted Police Mission met here today to discuss the measures to make police more effective, efficient and people friendly.
The meeting, chaired by Home Minister Shivraj Patil also discussed the issue of providing modern equipment and investigative tools to police so that they could catch the criminals.
The issue of making police people friendly and sensitive to their needs also figured at the meeting which was also attended by Home Secretary V K Duggal, State Directors General of Police, officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation and represent FICCI.
It also deliberated on the recommendation of the Police Act Drafting Committee like seperation of law and order maintenance and investigative job of police and fixed tenure of two-years to senior police officers and a mechanism to protect police from ''extraneous (political) influence.'' The Committee, headed by Soli Sorabjee, had made recommendations to amend the 145 year old police act to make policing efficient, effective, people friendly and accountable to common people.
