'Numero uno world economy within India's grasp'
Hyderabad, Nov 3: Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram has a dream - to see India emerge numero uno as the world's fastest growing economy, of course piggy bagging on the reforms vehicle.
And he did not suppress his feelings at the platform after launching today a new insurance policy for 'students' and 'family' by the public sector National Insurance Company Ltd here, where he told critics of reforms to 'remove cobwebs' from their minds.
And again he tried to silence detractors of reforms by choosing the 'now and 15 years ago' comparison.
'Look now and 15 years ago. The growth (of the economy then) pales to insignificance, the foreign exchange reserve now and then (15 years ago)'.
'When we first talked about WTO, the first called Dunkel draft, we are in better place in the Doha Round'.
'Unlike earlier, when India was a player on the fringe (15 years ago) look at any world grouping, G7, G8....G20, where India has been given an accord. All these are acknowledgement (of the fact) that we are a growing economy, because India (they say and acknowledge) is the second fastest growing economy in the world'.
'But I am not happy (with India as the 2nd fastest economy).
The goal should be to become the number one ...the world's fastest growing economy. We can do it and it is well within our grasp'.
'We have to remove the cobwebs from our mind and take every idea on merit and accept all ideas which benefit us', he urged.
