No place to bury dead due to floods

Guntur, Nov 3 (UNI) The cyclone, which has covered the whole area here under knee-deep water in the past six days, has wreaked havoc on the local people as they find it difficult to bury the dead.

Relatives of a 65-year-old man, who was washed away in swirling waters last Sunday night while sleeping on the 'verandah' of his thatched house in Bhattiprolu village, near here, found his body floating after a day-long search.

But to their dismay, burying the body was impossible as the entire stretch of land was covered with water.

His son said the body was buried by the side of a railway track after searching for a place for three days.

The situation was no different in Namburu village, where relatives B Gangamma (75) and N Prakasa Rao (80) were struggling hard to bury their bodies after they died in floods.

Eyewitnesses said two men had to bail out water from the ground before the bodies were hastly lowered and covered with the mud.
