National expo on aids for disabled at Chandigrah from Nov 6

New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar will inaugurate a three-day national exhibition on assistive devices teaching Kit, learning material and barrier free features for the benefit of persons with disabilities and the elderly in Chandigarh on November 6.

Called 'SAMARTHYA 2006', this is tenth in the series of exhibitions organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment after nine successful events held in different states.

The exhibition is organised in collaboration with Governments of Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab.

It aims at dissemination of information on the latest Assistive devices, schemes and services for persons with disabilities; exchange of information between the users and the producers of Assistive devices and creating awareness about prevention, early intervention and barriers free environment among general public.

In addition to erection of 100-125 octonorm stalls for display, activities like assessment and free distribution of aids&appliances, counseling, mobile courts for grievance redressal of persons with disabilities, distribution of disability certificate, film shows, workshops and competitions will be organised during the exhibition.
