MoU signed for R

Pune, Nov 3 (UNI) A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was today signed by the Indian Institute of Vine and Wine with Adelaide University of Australia for research and development of new techniques for wine-making.

The MoU was signed by Shyamrao Chougule on behalf of the Indian Institute of Vine and Wine with Vice Chancellor of Adelaid University Prof John Taplin for research and development of new techniques for wine production, and training of the work force in the wine industry at Narayangaon.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Maharashtra Minister for Rehabilitation Patangrao Kadam.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Taplin said the Adelaide University would offer a three-year course in all aspects of wine making.

Further, the partnership would provide the opportunity to the Adelaide University for research in seeds, soil, climatic conditions and to develop the wine industry in different regions of the country.

South Australia Premier Mike Rann said the University had developed the wine industry in Australia. The exports grew from Australian dollars 20 million to 2 billion dollars in the past 20 years.

He said there was no compromise on quality or price and what was developed was the premium, this has been endorsed by wine tasters internationally.

Mr Chougule said there was tremendous scope for the wine industry and with the signining of MoU, the courses would be offered here. The fees and other details are still to be worked out, but the Indian Institute of Vine and Wine would impart formal education to create a qualified work force, that has become a critical need for the nascent industry, he added.
