Mizoram to increase orange production
Aizawl, Nov 3 (UNI) The Mizoram government has decided to help growers for enhancing orange production in the state.
The government recently received a research report that dealt with causes of orange diseases and their solution for enhancing production.
A team of scientists comprising S P Sharma, K A Parnak, Kundan Kisar, Brajendra and S K Verma, all of them specialists in orange, has detected casues of diseases, that were responsible for falling of orange production.
Headed by the state Horticulture department, the scientists will give education to the orange farmers, who lost lakh of rupees annually due to plant diseases.
Apart from orange, Mizoram produces varieties of tropical and sub-tropical fruits like pineapple, pears, peaches and plums.
From the data of productivity made available by National Horticulture Board, it appeared that although North Eastern States, especially Mizoram, produce good quality of fruits, their productivity per hectare was far below in comparison to other states.
