Major tragedy averted, ex-ultra killed and two surrender in J
Srinagar, Nov 3 (UNI) Militants killed a former ultra, planted a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and abducted a person while two ultras surrendered in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.
Police today averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants on the Srinagar Airport this afternoon.
Official sources said an IED was kept in a water jug, which was kept near the naka post of state police at Iqbal Park to target security forces and other top government officials.
However, alert police personnel during the patrolling noticed it and immediately cordoned off the area after suspending traffic.
Later, the bomb disposal squad was summoned and the IED was defused.
An official spokesman said militants shot at and critically wounded a former HM militant Bilal Ahmad Parray alias Bhilwahab at Qazigund in south Kashmir district Anantnag late last night. He was shifted to hospital where he died.
Militants abducted one Farooq Ahmad Lober at Dooniwari in the frontier district last night.
Two militants surrendered alongwith arms and ammunition at Chatroo in Doda district of Jammu region.
