Lankan Tamil refugee count exceeds 15,000

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Nov 3 (UNI) The total number of Sri Lankan refugees in the state has gone up to 15,978 with the arrival of five more Tamils today.

Police sources here this evening said while 13,617 refugees arrived here via Dhanushkodi, 2,349 Tamils arrived via Pamban, Mandapam and Uchipuli.

A total of 6,120 families were housed in 40 camps in various parts of the state, including Tiruchirapalli, Madurai and Melur.

Tamils have been fleeing the island nation since the break out of fresh hostilities between the Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE rebels.
