Intel to set up manufacturing facility in India
New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) Intel Corp, world's largest computer chip maker, today said it is looking at setting up a manufacturing (ATM) facility in India and is currently waiting the government's nod for an incentive package under its proposed semiconductor policy.
''The Government is currently in the process of finalising the semiconductor policy, which will offer a host of fiscal incentives to the companies proposing to set up either ATMs or full-fledged chip manufacturing facilities in the country,'' Intel Chairman Craig Barrett told reporters here.
The setting up of an ATM facility in India is still an open issue, Mr Barrett added.
In addition, Intel plans to donate 10,000 full function PCs to state governments and teacher training institutions, as well as train one million teachers on the application of technology by 2008.
To further improve education and increase access to information, the PCs will be equipped with Internet connectivity, education content supported by the government, and software applications.
In addition to its education efforts, Intel will develop a technology infrastructure to strenghten community health centres in colloboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Intel plans to invest more than one billion dollars in India over the next few years.
