Haryana govt clears 25 renewable energy projects

Chandigarh, Nov 3 (UNI) In a significant decision, the Haryana government today cleared 25 Renewable Power Energy Projects of 677 MW involving an investment of Rs 3400 crore by Private Power Producers.

These projects will generate 135 lakh units of power daily by the middle of 2008.

This decision was taken in the meeting of High Powered Committee empowered for sanction of Renewable Power Energy Projects above five MW held here today under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary Prem Prashant.

Giving details about the projects, the Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Renewable Energy, Mr S C Choudhary said that 21 projects of biomass power generation with a capacity of 237 MW and four projects of 440 MW of wind energy had been cleared in the meeting. The letter of intent would soon be issued to the developers whose projects had got the clearance.

The Director, Renewable Energy Department, Mrs Sumita Misra said that proposals of independent Power Producers were invited for setting up of power projects based on biomass and wind energy by HAREDA. In response, the department received 65 proposals of biomass power projects with a cumulative capacity of 680.4 MW and three proposals of wind power projects with a cumulative capacity of 585 MW.

She said that the wind monitoring conducted by HAREDA had revealed the possibility of commercial exploitation of wind power in the hilly areas of state and also in the areas falling in Gurgaon, Mewat and Mahendergarh.

She further informed that independent power producers will get the facilities like exemption from electricity duty, local area development tax, wheeling and banking facilities etc. They shall now enter into MoU with HAREDA.
