Govt ready to re-engage staff in Handicrafts Corpn: Minister
Bhopal, Nov 3 (UNI) The government today told the Madhya Pradesh Assembly that 44 employees, earlier engaged on contract basis in the State Handicrafts Development Corporation, would be re-engaged provided they agreed to work on contract basis.
Gramodyog Minister Narendra Singh Tomar gave this assurance when the issue was raised by Mr Sajjan Singh Verma (Cong), who contended family members of the peons were starving as they were not paid wages for six months.
Mr Tomar said the peons were not regular employees and their contract were renewed from time to time. But this year, they did not agree to renew the contract.
Mr Verma said the peons, who were engaged since 1994, were being paid wages and given increment as if they were regular employees.
The offer to re-engage them was given yesterday after the call attention notice was given, he added.
