Eighth convention of AICC of working women inaugurated
Visakhapatnam, Nov 3 (UNI) The Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) National President M K Pande today inaugurated the eighth convention of All India Co-ordination Committee (AICC) of working women here.
Speaking after the inauguration here, Mr Pande said working women face many problems. CITU would pay more attention to ensure that working women got equal wages and maternity benefits and would campaign against sexual harassment and plight of home-based workers.
He urged UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to implement 33 per cent reservation for women.
He alleged that efforts were on to scuttle the CITU. The working class was also being cheated of their contribution to the PF and retirement benefits. Over 97 per cent of the workers were still in the unorganised sector and the time had come for enactment of a legislation to protect their interests, he said.
