DTO's post abolished in Haryana
Chandigarh, Nov 3 (UNI) In a move aimed at curbing corruption in the Transport Department, the Haryana government today decided to abolish the post of District Transport Officer (DTO) in the state.
Making the announcement here, Transport Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said the decision had been taken to make the system more transparent, hammer at the prevailing corruption and ensure greater accountability.
He said the Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) would now be vested with the powers of Regional Transport Authority (RTAs) while the State Transport Controller would act as State Transport Authority (STA).
In a related decision, the government decided to hand over 135 road tax barriers with the Transport Department to the Excise and Taxation Department.
Besides, about 5,500 officials of the Excise Department, who were on deputation in the Transport department, would be sent back to their parent department.
