NE: Chopper service on cards to promote tourism

Aizwal, Nov 03: To promote tourism in the North Eastern region, the concerned Union Ministry has asked NE states to come up with comprehensive proposal to start helicopter services in the region.

Tourism officials here today said the ministry had laid out a plan to commence Chopper services to the popular tourism destinations including the important towns of the region.

According to the plan,the services would be started in NE states, Uttarnchal and Himachal Pradesh in the first phase and other six hill states in the second phase, officials said.

The ministry had already submitted the proposal to the Planning Commission and the service is expected to be launched during eleventh five years plan, the officials said.

''Centre has asked the respective state governements to set up helipads close to the tourist destinations,'' officials said.

Eco-tourism like rafting, skiing, tracking, would also be developed after the services are commissioned in the service, the officials added.
