Centre for moderisation of police force: Patil

Jalandhar, Nov 3: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today said that the Centre would take appropriate decision on issues like modernisation and upgradation of police set-up and improvement in its functioning as per reccommendation of the Police Mission.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Patil said that the Centre had constituted the Police Mission to deal with vital issues for making police set up capable of facing new emerging challenges.

The minister said that the Mission, besides focusing on improvement in the police functioning, would also deal with issues including amendments in certain laws, framming of new laws, role of the police in universitites and other institutions, strengthening of training set up and setting up of police universities.

He said that the government would act promotly on its recommendations as and when the same are received.
