British national convicted for drug peddling

New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) A Delhi Court today sentenced 10 years imprisonment to a British national for possessing seven kgs of charas while travelling from India to Europe in April 2003.

Additional Sessions Judge S N Gupta also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on Stephen Jankin, who was nabbed by the police at the Indira Gandhi International airport with the drugs on April 4, 2003.

On November 1, 2006, Stephen pleaded guilty and prayed for leniency saying that he had been languishing in the jail for the past more than three years.

However, the prosecution submitted that the court should give maximum punishment to Stephen as he was peddling drugs for a commercial purpose.
