ABVP opposes entry of foreign universities in education
Shimla, Nov 3 (UNI) Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad's (ABVP) General Secretary K N Raghunandan today criticised the Union Government for allowing foreign universities to enter the country without any legislation or any regulation, saying that the Parishad would oppose the decision.
''Any talk about entry of foreign university will only be relevant after all government institutions were strengthened by providing adequate staff and requisite infrastructure for imparting quality education to all,'' he said, while addressing a rally here, organised by the Parishad against academic corruption and unemployment.
Mr Raghunandan also accused Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Arjun Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi of hatching a conspiracy to divide the student community into ''minority and majority'' groups.
The UPA government was trying to appease the minorities by giving preference to them in educational institutions and jobs by passing the constitutional provisions, he said.
He said while SCs, STs and other backwards classes were being denied reservation in minority institutions and government jobs, the Centre was providing reservation to the minority people despite there being no such constitutional provision.
Threatening that the Parishad would launch a countrywide agitation against minority appeasement, academic corruption and growing unemployment, he said the rally here was not only an alarm for 'academic changes' but also an indication of the ''political change'' in the state and the Centre.
The ABVP leader said the rally was the launching of an agitation, similar to one launched by Jai Prakash Narayan in 1975 with the support of student community and youth.
