2 more held in illegal export of psychotropic drugs to US
Vadodara, Nov 2 (UNI) Sleuths of the Gujarat Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) today arrested two more persons from the city in connection with the recently unearthed illegal trading and export of psychotropic drugs to US, Germany and other western countries.
The arrested included Sangeeta Bhatia, a computer operator working with city-based Dawn Pharmaceuticals and one Anil Jethi, a pharmacist of Balaji Medical Store, NCB sources said.
Acting on a tip-off from the Drug Enforcement Agency in US, NCB sleuths had busted the racket on Saturday last by conducting simultaneous raids at three places in the city and arresting two senior staff members of pharma industries--Dawn Pharmaceuticals and Trifty Solutions Private Ltd with the seizure of huge quantity of psychotropic drugs from their possession.
The duo identified as Samuel soans and Umesh Patel, who were allegedly getting orders for supply of psychotropic drugs online from their partner based in US, had been remanded to judicial custody here after expiry of their NCB remand period.
The NCB reportedly made the fresh arrests in the case after it examined about 20 computer hard discs and other documents it had seized during the raids.
According to NCB sources, NRI Girish Rai, said to be the prime accused in the drug racket, had been taken into custody by the US Drug Enforcement Agency for illegally procuring the psychotropic drugs from India in huge quantity with fake documents.
