TN to come out with new industrial policy soon: CM
Chennai, Nov 02 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced that the government would come out with a new Industrial Policy later this year to renew commitment to economic development.
Addressing FICCI's National Executive Committee meeting here, Mr Karunanidhi said 'while we are keen on attracting investments, we are equally focussed on development of infrastructure in the state.' Development had to necessarily have a human face and growth in the economy must also mean growth in job opportunities, which must also mean greater opportunities for under-privileged sections of society.
Stating that the country was in the era of global markets without boundaries, he said competition was an unwritten law in all walks of life. If FICCI members competed for business, state governments were competing for investments and creation of jobs.
'Tamil Nadu has been and will continue to be a front-runner in attracting large number of domestic and foreign investors,' he said, adding, like the manufacturing sector, the service sector had also emerged a significant employment provider in the state. 'The Tamil Nadu government wants a healthy growth of both manufacturing and service sectors. Support and contribution of FICCI to this process is vital,' Mr Karunanidhi said.
